With many energy suppliers struggling right now, we’d like to share some advice on what to do if your supplier goes bust:
• Don’t panic, your supply will not be cut off.
• Don’t try to change supplier immediately. Ofgem will appoint a new supplier to take over, they will write to you. This usually takes around 2 weeks, but may take longer at the moment.
• In the meantime, it’s helpful to take a meter reading, and download or screenshot any recent bills/statements if you can.
• Any credit or debt you had will be transferred to the new supplier.
• If you applied for the warm home discount with your old supplier, you will need to reapply once a new supplier has been appointed.
• Once your account is set up with the new supplier, you are free to search for a different supplier if you prefer.
